I’m not talking about cookbooks for certain countries. If you create a food guide for a certain country, that goes into real detail, then you can sell it at a very high price.

Foodies LOVE detailed information about exotic ingredients and indigenous methods of preparation. For example, you could create a guide about the food of Southern China, or the food of Libanon, with information on spices and herbs that they use, how they combine them to create what kinds of effects. What they do to give meat a certain texture. How they use special cutting techniques. How exactly they dry foods, and what it does to a vegetable or piece of meat and so on.

The key here is to dig deep and do a lot of research. Of course, as with all information products, you do not need to do this research yourself – you can outsource it, you can interview people who are experts and simply package all this information into your own info product. If you not just make it written text but also include pictures – or even better: video you will find an eager audience.

Food-fanatics will be glad to shell out upwards of $100 if you offer them a real in-depth guide to a certain countries kitchen.

Sure, it is a very niche product – but not so much. Think about it: there are people who book FOOD TOURS! These people often spend thousands of dollars to travel to another country and learn about the food and the cooking techniques of that country.

And it is in fact a very useful thing too – we live in an age where it’s all about convenience, and a lot of knowledge about traditional ways of preparing food gets lost. Jamie Oliver pointed out that there are a lot of kids who can not even tell a carrot from a potato from a tomato. Sounds incredible? Not at all.

And while this general trend doesn’t seem to be so good for an info product about food – it is! Because the large amount of ignorance when it comes to food creates a very fanatic counter-culture of people who go really deep when it comes to food-knowledge, and they make it part of their identity to know about these things, to cook by themselves, to explore new techniques and ingredients and surprise their friends and family with things they never tasted before.

You could interview people who offer cooking courses. This would also be good for them, because all of the sudden they turn into “published authors” – which enhances their expert status and can make their marketing messages stronger, thus bringing in more students to their courses and more money into their pockets.

You could visit local markets and talk to the sellers about the produce and so on. Maybe you’ll have to pay them to give you the information, because they don’t have something to gain from this, and you’ll have to talk to a lot of sellers to find one who really is able to give you the details, but that’s okay. Again, if you’re not passionate about food, then you can just outsource this and have someone assemble all the information for you.

There’s so many ways to pull this off – this is just to get your brain started.

This is kind of an guerilla idea. But you could make a travel guide for a “dangerous destination”.

You see, for example right now Bangkok is big in the news because of the so-called “red-shirt protests”. People died, got shot, almost a thousand got hurt, it’s been going on for over a month, it’s a major thing.

But still, there are thousands of people arriving everyday at Bangkok airport, despite the travel warnings that foreign ministries from countries all over the world issue.

And it’s a fact: when you look the news about another country, it might often seem as if that country is a warzone. Because the news tend to show mostly the sensational pictures, the worst moments: explosions, blood, shooting. It doesn’t show the quiet and normal scenes that go on in a place.

Now, if you’d be standing there or had a small place where you sell a “Bangkok Dangerous Map – Be Safe in Bangkok”, then you could make some quick money.

All you need is some local knowledge. This is a fast and easy operation.

And if so, they might want to know how to select the right dinosaur bones, or how to store your dinosaur bones, or how to make the most amazing room decoration out of dinosaur bones, or how to detect fake dinosaur bones, or whatever.

Just a weird idea.

There are lots of freelancing web designers out there. Most of them know a lot about web design, but very little about marketing.

If you can provide them with good marketing information, that will actually bring them new customers, then a hefty pricetag would be very justified for that. Think about the fact that a new website can often cost thousands of dollars. Even if your system brings in just 3 new customers a month, that would be a major increase in their income (think about it: 36 new customers a month. If each one is worth $1000, that’s $36000 in the first year in additional profits – wouldn’t that be worth a couple hundred grand?).

And it’s not that difficult to do – all you have to do is create a “marketing for ___” and then you can create variations of this for different markets. The differences will be very small, but since you can be active in different markets, it will be a huge money maker.

There actually is an information product that teaches you how to get a deeper voice.

When I was in high-school, a guy from the class we did sports with together had this high-pitched voice, and we gave him a hard time because of that. (I’m not proud of it, but we were kids and didn’t know better).

So a guy with a high-pitched voice surely is experiencing some emotional pain, and has some issues around his self-esteem, because of his female-sounding voice.

Most men like to have a manly voice, or at least a “normal” voice, but not a voice that sounds like Micky Mouse.

Now, it surely is a really small niche market – but the people who are looking for this kind of information have a high likelyhood to buy, because they want to get rid of the emotional pain that is caused by their high-pitched voice.

When you read the salesletter, you will notice that it promises you a deeper voice within 5 days. That’s pretty good, because it promises instant results, without having to go through months and months of voice training. Also, first thing you notice when you read the sales page is that there’s basically a “before and after audio”, so that you hear the difference this program can make in a person’s voice.

Recently I was travelling with friends, and of of them was a vegetarian. And I found that these people really have ’special needs’. You should think that it’s possible to go to just any restaurant and just order something vegetarian, but in reality it’s not that easy. Because if everyone else on the table is fully enjoying their meal, and you are kind of putting something together that consists of several side dishes, and it’s not really what you want, that makes you feel bad.

So if you can make “Vegetarian City Guides” that would hit their absolute sweetspot. And after experiencing my friend… I’m absolutely convinced that these people would shell out money for that.

How much research would it take? Well, let’s take London…

http://www.google.com/search?q=london+vegetarian

Now, if it’s that easy, why would people pay money for it? Because 1) many people still aren’t that web-savvy, and 2) if you “package” the information nicely, and make it even into a book-format (on demand printing anyone?) that’s gonna be of enough additional value to them to be worth it. Add some fotos, summarize reviews, etc.

There’s many ways how you could up the value on that, just let your imagination flow.

If you’ve put all the time and energy into creating an information product – and then it didn’t sell, you know that it can be a really frustrating experience.
I’ve been there. I invested almost 2 months and a little bit of money into creating a product from scratch once. And I really did a good job with it. I made sure the infos are top-notch, I made sure the presentation really helped people to “get it” easier. So, with lots of excitement I put it all up online, opened a clickbank account and was ready to see the sales rolling in…
And guess what: it didn’t happen.

But this “flop” later turned into a huge advantage for me. Because I learned a very valuable lesson. I just couldn’t accept that all of this work should have been wasted. So, I tried for ways to make it work. Tweaked the copy. Got PPC campaigns ramped up. Lots of SEO and article marketing. To no avail. Now I know what the problem was: the kind of product. It just didn’t push any hot buttons in the clients mind. There was no urgent problem to be solved, no pain to be stopped – it was about making something that’s already good great. So I didn’t do my market research beforehand.

But – and that’s the good thing. There are LOTS of ways to profit from “dead products”.

SELLING RIGHTS
You can always try to sell the resale rights, or even private label rights to other marketers. Although I don’t want to get your hopes to high on that one. Because experienced marketers will instinctively know whether they can sell a product or not. But for some, it might just be worth to bundle the product up in some way with other products and sell that. So, while I wouldn’t invest too much stock in finding rights buyers, you definitely should give it a try. Maybe make an offer in the Warrior Forum in the special offers section. Or contact other marketers who sell products that are related to your product and offering your rights to them.

USE AS BONUS
You can always use your product as a bonus to another product. Specially if the contents really are good, with a bit of copywriting chops you can usually tie it in so that it enhances the perceived value of the product a lot.

LET OTHERS USE AS BONUS
If you weren’t successful with selling the rights to your product, ask other marketers in related markets if they want to give your product as an additional bonus to their customers. And make clear that you will give them the right to do so free of charge. What’s the benefit in that, you may ask? Easy: You get exposure to proven buyers in your market. And if your product really is good, they will check out your website. Specially if you tell them to do so in your product repeatedly and offer them more good stuff on their website and send them to an opt-in-form. I can’t stress enough the importance of building a list of proven buyers, and if you can get some big dog to add your product as a bonus to theirs, then this can be a really great way to get access to very valuable clients.

USE AS OPT-IN-INCENTIVE
You can also give your product away for free, just for having people opt-in. Listbuilding is extremely important when it comes to internetmarketing, and if you can give them something of real value, they will start to trust you and you will be able to build a relationship with them – which will ultimately lead to sales. But – even when it’s “free” you have to sell it to them. They have to see the value in it. And if you couldn’t sell it for money, then it might not be easy to make it work as an incentive for opting in free either. But give it a try. Test.

GIVEAWAYS
In every market, there are “giveaway events”, where all kinds of people are giving something away for free. Participate. Give your product away for free there and make them opt-in to get it. If in your market, there isn’t a giveaway event, that’s a great opportunity because you can create one and become a “celebrity” in your market that way.

JOINT VENTURE
You can approach other businesses that have a product in your market and offer them to combine your products and sell them as one bundle. And you split the profits. Very simple, but powerful idea.

CONTEST
Make it a contest and give your product away to the winners. For example – have people submit an article for you on ezinearticles, or just ask them for the three most important things they want to learn about the subject your product is about. Or have them create a video that promotes your product. Or make it a quiz, and if they answer all the questions right, they get a price. There are MANY ways to create contests, and contests can really work gangbusters.

GO BIG
You can also approach big businesses and offer your product to them at “wholesale prices”. You can even offer them to handle the fulfillment for you. They can use it as a lead generation tool.

EBAY
Put it up on ebay for a low price and see if it sells. Selling 100 products on ebay for $19.95 is still a lot better than selling nothing. You might be surprised to find that for some reason, on ebay you can sell it. Or you can auction it with a low start-price and see how high it goes.

For me and my product, back then, I actually used several of these strategies (I did not just pick one), and it worked out really, really well. Besides from the money I made and the subscribers I won, I also made friends with other people in the industry, and that’s where you get real leverage from in the future.
